Safety and Security
At Erie County Technical School, the safety, security, and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. The Safety & Security Leadership Teams coordinate campus-wide safety and emergency preparedness efforts. This section outlines the various committees and teams responsible for maintaining a secure, healthy, and supportive learning environment.

Safety Committee
The ECTS Safety Committee meets monthly and is composed of administrators, staff, and other key stakeholders. The committee reviews workplace safety, facility conditions, and staff injury prevention. It identifies potential hazards, recommends corrective actions, and promotes a culture of safety throughout the school. Its efforts support a healthy and secure environment for all students and staff.
SAP / Risk Review Team
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) and Risk Review Team provides support to students who may be struggling with mental health, substance use, or personal challenges that interfere with learning. The team connects students and families with school-based and community resources to promote safety, well-being, and academic success.
Threat Assessment Team
The Threat Assessment Team follows the Pennsylvania model outlined in Act 18 and functions to identify, assess, and intervene when individuals may pose a threat to themselves or others. The team works collaboratively with administration, counseling, and law enforcement partners to ensure timely and appropriate responses that prioritize safety and support.
Safe2Say Response Team
The Safe2Say Response Team receives, and reviews reports submitted through the statewide Safe2Say Something program. The team—comprised of administrators, school police, and counselors—works together to evaluate each report, respond quickly, and connect students to appropriate resources.

The Safe2Say Something program allows students, staff, and community members to anonymously report concerns about potential threats, bullying, or individuals in crisis. Reports can be submitted 24/7 through the official Safe2Say website or mobile app and are immediately routed to the school’s response team for review and action.
Title IX Team
The Title IX Team ensures compliance with federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct in educational programs and activities. The team is responsible for investigating and addressing all reported Title IX concerns in a prompt, fair, and thorough manner to protect the rights of all students and staff.
CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Team
The CPI Team at ECTS focuses on Care, Safety, Security, and Welfare. Team members are trained in crisis recognition, de-escalation techniques, and safe intervention strategies. The CPI approach is guided by its

Run, Hide, Fight Information

Erie County Technical School follows the nationally recognized Run, Hide, Fight model established by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security:
- Run — Escape if possible and leave belongings behind.
- Hide — Secure your location, lock doors, and remain quiet.
- Fight — Take action only as a last resort when your life is in imminent danger.
Training and informational resources are provided to help staff and students respond effectively in an active threat situation.
Visitor Management
All visitors are required to check in through our School Pass Visitor Management System. Upon arrival, each visitor must state the purpose of their visit, present a valid driver’s license or government-issued ID, and be screened against the sex offender registry and other relevant security databases. No visitor is permitted on campus without completing this process, ensuring a safe and controlled environment.
Emergency Preparedness Plan
Erie County Technical School maintains a comprehensive Emergency Preparedness Plan designed to guide staff and students during various emergency situations. The plan is developed in coordination with local first responders and reviewed regularly to ensure readiness. Routine drills and staff training help ensure quick, coordinated responses to any crisis.
Naloxone (Narcan)
Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, is available on-site at Erie County Technical School to reverse opioid overdoses in emergency situations. Designated staff members have been trained in its use, reinforcing the school’s commitment to student and community health and safety.

Searches at Erie County Technical School are conducted in accordance with Erie County Technical School Board Policy and Pennsylvania law. These measures are designed to maintain a safe educational environment, protect property, and uphold the rights of all individuals on campus.
Security Cameras
Security cameras are installed throughout campus facilities and monitored by authorized security personnel. These cameras serve as both a deterrent to misconduct and an investigative resource, helping to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
Employee Safety & Protection
Staff members at Erie County Technical School receive regular safety and emergency training, including drills and scenario exercises. The administration continuously evaluates policies and procedures, striving for ongoing improvement in employee safety, workplace security, and overall protection.
