An introductory course in which the student learns the basics of interpreting
machine drawings. Topics include line and symbol identification,
interpreting one, two, and three view drawings, dimensioning and tolerancing,
section and auxiliary views, machining operations including screw thread
specification and representation. Shop math skills including the use of
decimal, fractional and metric systems are also covered.
Blueprint Reading--Machining II Hrs: 45 Tuition: $275 Terms Offered: II, IV Course #: 5335 Days: T, TH Time: 6:15-9:30
An intermediate blueprint reading course in which the student gains additional
experience interpreting more challenging blueprints. Basic Geometric
Dimensioning & Tolerancing is also covered.
Prerequisites include basic
blueprint reading skills and sound math skills.
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing Hrs: 30 Tuition: $275 Terms
Offered: I, III Course #: 5338 Days: M, W Time: 6:00-8:15 This course will teach participants to read, interpret, and translate design requirements in accordance with standards. The course will cover an introduction to GD&T, fundamentals and rules, form tolerances for individual features (flatness, straightness, circularity, cylindricity, orientation tolerances, datums, position and concentricity).
Prerequisites include basic blueprint reading skills and sound shop math skills.
Basic Metallurgy Hrs: 30 Tuition: $275 Terms Offered: II, IV Course #: 5339 Days: M, W Time: 6:00-8:15 This course is intended to develop an understanding of what metals are, their composition and properties, and heat treatment methods used to obtain various properties. While concentrating on steel, including carbon, alloy and tool steels, information on microstructures, nonferrous metals, and methods of making shapes is given. The course also reviews procedures needed to determine chemical analysis, hardness, tensile properties, and nondestructive testing, plus identification and cures for problems including
part failures.
