Tech Tikes is a laboratory preschool program in a high school setting with a “Children First” approach. This teaches the high school students the importance of early childhood education. Children and high school students are supervised at all times by the Early Childhood Education instructor.
Activities in the preschool are planned to promote social, physical, emotional, creative, and intellectual growth for preschoolers. All activities are flexible to promote creativity and spontaneous learning. In a society where children are pressured into learning more earlier, we believe all learning should be fun, not forced.
We may talk about shapes, colors, numbers or letters during group circle time, or during outdoor walks. We select a theme for each week and try to tie the theme into art activities, songs, finger plays, dramatic play, and even snack. Special visitors are sometimes invited into the preschool as a learning activity.
Children from Erie County who are three and older and toilet-trained may enroll in the preschool if space is available. Sessions operate Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for the entire school year. Parents may choose either the morning program (8:30-10:30 a.m.) or the afternoon session (12:30-2:30 p.m.).
