Parent Connection

The More You Know . . .

Keeping our customers informed is important to the faculty and staff at the Erie County Technical School.  And yes, we consider the parents and guardians of our students as one of our most important customers.

The purpose of this web page is to "keep you in the know" as your son or daughter attends school with us.  This page will help you to stay in touch with school information, events and faculty and staff members.

Parent Satisfaction

We value customer satisfaction at ECTS.  And as a parent and a customer, we are especially interested in keeping you satisfied.  Each year we conduct a parent satisfaction survey to get a sense of how we are doing for you and your son or daughter.  You can call us any time with your comments--bad or good!  Of course, you don't have to wait until the end of the school year to fill out our survey either.  Feel free to complete it now by clicking on the hyperlink below.  When you are done, you will be able to see the results from all parents.  We take your comments to heart and do everything we can to respond to your comments.

Campus Calendar

Follow the link in the title to find out when school is in session and grading periods start and end.

The technical school has special event days from time to time.  Our "Quick Connections" link to "This Week . . ." lists those special events.  Check there from time to time to see what is happening at ECTS.
Faculty & Staff Directory

Need to talk with the principal, guidance counselor or the faculty member that works with your son or daughter?  The link above takes you to a web page which has an e-mail address and telephone extension for everyone on our staff.

You can call the school anytime.  All faculty and staff members have voice mailboxes, so please leave a message.  Voice mailboxes are available every day at any hour.  A good time to reach faculty members is between 10:45 a.m. and 12:00 noon.  If you prefer, our receptionist will be happy to take a message and deliver if for you during school hours.
Attendance at the Technical School

The general rule is ECTS students report to the technical school everyday it is in session even if the home school is closed.

When the technical school is open, but the home school is closed, all of the school districts provide bus transportation to the technical school for both morning and afternoon sessions.  The arrangements vary between school districts so please call the transportation department in your school district for the details.
Snow Days and Weather Delays

Each of the school districts and ECTS makes their own decision to delay or cancel the school day.  When a school district is under a delay or cancellation, then students from that district are not expected to attend ECTS.  We do not count the students absent when this happens.  Of course, if ECTS is under a delay or cancellation, then no students from any district will report to ECTS.
Home School Days

All of our participating school districts occasionally have events during the school day where they want all of their students to attend--and therefore ECTS students miss attending the technical school.  When this happens we count the students as "present" at the technical school.  We expect the students to make up assignments missed at ECTS due to a home school day.  We allow students extra time to complete the missed assignments.
Student Transportation

All of our school districts provide free, safe and reliable bus transportation to and from the technical school for both the morning and afternoon sessions.  We strongly encourage all students to use the transportation provided by the school districts.

ECTS only permits juniors and seniors to drive to school.  We discourage drivers from having other students ride to school with them.
Tools and Supplies

Tool ownership is an important first step in everyone's career.  Most employers expect or require their employees to provide their own set of tools.  Our request to have students provide some of their own tools is our attempt to prepare students for these important steps.

Many programs at ECTS require students to provide their own basic hand tools.  All other special or power tools and supplies are provided by the technical school.  Faculty members make a concentrated effort to keep their tool list to a minimum number of tools.  Many faculty members stretch their list of required tools over the length of the three-year program.  Financial assistance is available for those students whom may need some help in purchasing their tools.

Toolkit Security.  When students bring their tools to school they are strongly encouraged to protect and secure them.  A quality "combination padlock" is an excellent start.  A good "tool box" is an equally good start.  Before bringing their tools to school, students should mark their tools (by permanent marker or etching) with a unique identifying mark or number.  Lastly, students should make sure their tools are locked up and put in the tool storage area before they leave for an extended period.
Uniforms

For several good reasons, some of our programs require students to wear a uniform while working in the laboratory.  Students should check with their faculty member before purchasing uniforms--frequently there are specific styles expected by the faculty member.  A change of uniforms is always a good idea, as is frequent laundering.  Financial assistance is available for those students whom may need some help in purchasing their uniforms.
Grade Cards & Progress Reports

ECTS follows a nine-week grading period.  After every nine weeks of classes, grade cards are sent home.  At the mid-point of every grading period a progress report is mailed home to parents of students whose performance is below expectations.  Please feel free to contact the faculty member, guidance counselor or principal with any concerns you may have about your son's or daughter's performance in school.
School Forms

Did "someone" forget to bring home the field trip request form?  Or perhaps, that school form was "on the kitchen counter yesterday, but now it is nowhere to be found!"  All of ECTS' forms are available on-line.  All documents are in Adobe Acrobat format and can be printed at your printer.  Follow the hyperlink above to go to our forms web page.
